Competency Development Process
Competency development is a structured and continuous process of improving an employee's knowledge, skills and behaviours to address identified competency gaps and enable the effective performance of assigned tasks in accordance with established assessment standards, organisational policies and procedures.
The Competency Identification, Development, Assessment & Certification process involves the following key steps:
- Develop Job Competence Profiles (JCPs)
- Conduct Competency Gap analysis
- Prepare Individual Development Plans
- Execute, Review and Follow up on the Progress
- Carryout Capability Assessment
- Assure and Certify the Competencies
Competency Gap Analysis
Competency gap analysis must be carried out using custom-made tools developed specifically for each job position based on its Job Competency Profile (JCP). Common Gap Analysis Methodologies Include:
- • Oral & Written Questions: To assess theoretical understanding and clarity of concepts.
- • Observation at Work: Direct evaluation of how tasks are performed in real job conditions.
- • Project Assignments: Practical assessment of applied knowledge, skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- • Discussions with Supervisors: Insights on performance quality, behavior, compliance, and consistency.
- • Self-Assessment: Candidates may be encouraged to conduct a self-assessment to identify their strengths, and recognise areas that require further development or improvement.
IDP – Individual Development Plans
Competency gap analysis report will be compiled to identify the strong areas and areas that need improvements. Propose efficient and cost-effective development plans for individuals and groups, identifying WHEN, WHERE, HOW & by WHOM the development plans can be executed. Development plans will include:

- • Coaching and Mentoring
- • Leadership Development Programs
- • Blended learning
- • On job Training-OJT
- • E learning
- • Vendor Training, etc.
